Luxsoli presents LED-street lights with intelligent control
Frankfurt am Main/Gera, April 13th, 2010 – LED-street lights, which can be controlled from a laptop by wireless communication, are firstly presented by Luxsoli GmbH at the Light+Building. The world’s leading trade fair for architecture and technology lasts up to Friday in Frankfurt am Main. The new technology makes it possible to change the light intensity on the spot – for example in bad weather conditions, near road works or other places, where increased alertness of the road user is required.
Preceding light: „Light on Demand“ for joggers
The street lights provide preceding and accompanying light, as soon as passersby enter the coverage area of their motion detectors. According to the actual demand, the light intensity goes up or down. The “Companion Light” increases the sense of security of pedestrians, joggers and cyclists. Luxsoli’s managing director Ralf Mades: “The anxiety level at night can be considerably reduced.”
Apart from the grid, the street lights can be powered by solar energy or in combination of both as in the hybrid mode. “We are worldwide the technology leader in the field of wireless dimmable street lights and developer of the “Companion Light”, explains Ralf Mades.
Energy savings up to 95% possible
Luxsoli products further offer the known advantages of LEDs. The light emitting diodes require only a fraction of the energy used by high-pressure mercury vapor lamps. Those are mostly used in conventional street lighting. “Small towns often spend 50% of their energy costs for illumination, as the street lights in many places are older than 30 years” says Ralf Mades.
With Luxsoli’s street lights, energy savings up to 95% can be realized. “Municipalities and cities are advised to switch rapidly to the new technology as high-pressure mercury vapor lamps will have to be replaced latest by 2015 – according to the European Union guideline.
LEDs have many other advantages: they are small, long lasting, maintenance-free and do not flicker when turned on.
No light pollution: Environment-friendly light for flora and fauna
The mercury-free technology does not disturb plants and animals, especially nocturnal insects. “Light pollution is a legacy from the seventies. A considerable amount of the light emitted by the older street lights shines either in the night sky or into our living rooms” explains Ralf Mades. “Modern technology offers a remedial to this type of pollution. The light is directed to the place where it is really required.”
Pilot project in Düsseldorf
Presently, Luxsoli has installed a pilot project in Düsseldorf. A cycle path along the Rhine river is equipped with Luxsoli’s technology of “Companion Light”. The light intensity of the solar street lights increases or reduces according to the actual demand and traffic. Besides the road users who enjoy more lighting comfort and security, the local administration is equally pleased: the energy costs are reduced. “The payback period for the replacement of old street lights is below 10 years thanks to the energy savings.
